Our Family Garden
Our family garden is a compact but productive 15-by-20-foot growing space in Virginia Beach, Virginia (zone 8b). Within our footprint, we grow a wide mix of vegetables, peppers, fruits, and companion flowers, including tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeños, ghost peppers, cayenne, Korean peppers, Mad Hatter peppers, sweet purple bell peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, watermelon, cabbage, onions, garlic, strawberries, carrots, and marigolds.
A big part of what makes our garden unique is the infrastructure we have built ourselves. Much of the setup is supported by 3D-printed components designed to improve organization, drainage, and usability throughout the grow space. That custom approach lets us tailor the garden to our exact layout while making the most of a small area and a warm coastal Virginia climate.
Our garden is both a food source and a family project — a place where practical design, hands-on building, and seasonal growing all come together. It reflects our interest in self-reliance, creativity, and getting the most out of every square foot we have.
